Tourism as a mean to achieve the goals of the FPCD.

One way the FPCD will educate about and raise money to support its projects will be to organize trips to post-conflict developing countries. These trips would be coordinated by the FPCD, the proceeds going towards financing projects in the countries welcoming these tourists. It has been demonstrated that for most developing countries, tourism is an important source of income and creates employment.

The FPCD Director for Special Projects, Vincent Wilkinson, is currently looking into working in collaboration with colleges and universities where the FPCD would like to have a series of seminars to brief students on the benefits they could get out of learning about countries that experienced conflicts, their needs and potentials.

The FPCD is currently seeking educational institutions that offer not only political science and related degrees but also those that place an emphasis on textile, photography and design. Students in this field would be especially interested because developing countries have a local “know how” when it comes to manufacturing their textiles, apparels and artifacts that could be used by them in the future.

Included in the package will be a tax -deductible portion that will serve as a contribution for the FPCD to finance projects in the country to be visited. It is expected that when a trip is organized and funds are received a few months in advance, the FPCD could finance projects right away and students could, at the time of their trip, witness the benefit of their contributions while being in the country.

In addition to the contribution that would finance specific projects, the money spent while in the country (hotel, transportation, artifacts, etc) would be a great source of revenues for the local population.

At the country level these trips will be organized in full cooperation with local authorities. The government will be involved so as to assist the FPCD in the best way to identify the best use of funds that contribute to post conflict development in their country.

If you are interested in tourism as a means to achieve post conflict development with the FPCD please contact the Director of Special Project, Mr. Vincent Wilkinson.
