Maternity Progress News

FPCD Executive Director Claudia Abate has been coordinating the construction of the Prince Rainier III Maternity on behalf of the Monaco Red Cross. This project illustrates the Monaco Red Cross' commitment to post conflict development in Timor-Leste. The Maternity Clinic is the first of its kind in Timor-Leste and has been operational since February 2007. This project is significant because it is improving maternal and infant mortality rates (Millennium Development Goals 4 and 5) and has improved access to basic health care by having a dedicated facility for mothers and children. The Government of Monaco has graciously complimented the project by offering an ambulance to the Clinic. To date, the Prince Rainier III Maternity Clinic has received nearly 200 women who delivered healthy babies in Same District, Timor-Leste.
